MASTER CLASS 1

The ultimate guide to
setting up a simple home
food photography studio

DESCRIPTION
Can you imagine how great it would be to have your own home studio, where you can style and shoot magnificent food shots in your own environment, learn how to control and manipulate natural light, use props to unfold your visual story, and play around as you wish, whenever you wish? If the answer is "yes", then this masterclass is for YOU!

Throughout my career as a cookbook creator, I have shot most of the food photos for my 12 bestselling cookbooks (+ multiple food-and lifestyle features for magazines) in my own home with a minimum of equipment and squaremeters. It may surprise you how easily you can mimic the results of a giant studio with tens of thousands of Euros worth of high-end equipment. It is easy to get lost in the many options for equipment and set-up, but studios are really all about creative control, and managing the variables that affect the light is key. We will also cover how to create a small and portable food photography studio to bring with you when you are on the go.

PROGRAM
We’ll gather at my cozy, light-filled home & studio in Aarhus, Denmark at 10 AM, starting the day with a warm welcome—coffee, freshly squeezed juice, and home-baked goods—followed by introductions and an overview of the day’s program. I’ll guide you through the morning sessions, covering essential techniques and strategies. We’ll break for a delicious lunch before diving back into the afternoon classes, and we’ll wrap up around 4 PM.

FOR WHO
This masterclass is perfect for anyone looking to build their own food photography studio at home with minimal equipment. You’ll learn about props, backdrops, reflectors, and how to manipulate light to create both bright and airy photos as well as dark and moody imagery. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced photographer, you’re welcome to join. Please bring your iPhone and/or the camera you typically use for shooting.

ACCOMMODATION

This masterclass doesn't include accommodation. However, I can warmly recommend Villa Provence HotelHotel Guldsmeden or Hotel Ferdinand, all small boutique hotels in center of the Latin area of Aarhus with great shops, cafes and restaurants on the doorstep and the waterfront just a few minutes’ walk away All three hotels are located not more than 10 minutes drive from the masterclass-location. The cost for a 1 nights stay is approximately €200 (breakfast included). You pay the hotel directly on the day of your departure.

If you need transportation back and forth from the hotel to the masterclass I will be happy to help you book a taxi. Bikes can also be rented in the center of the city - remember, we are a cycling nation.

AARHUS & NEAREST AIRPORT

Aarhus is, with its population of 330.000 people, the second largest city of Denmark, and the city chosen as Cultural Capital of Europe and European Region of Gastronomy in 2017. Lonely Planet ranked Aarhus number two in its list of the ten best destinations in Europe in 2016 due to its “cool-cat neighbourhoods, head-turning architecture and culinary wizardry.”

Aarhus is located only 3 hours direct train journey from Copenhagen Central Station, and the closest airport is Aarhus Airport or Billund airport. If you fly to Copenhagen airport, there is a direct train from the airport to Aarhus Central Station (the train ride is beautiful and takes about 3 1/2 hours).

"I SIGNED UP FOR SIF'S WORKSHOP HOPING TO HONE MY VISUAL STORYTELLING TECHNIQUES...BUT I LEFT WITH SO MUCH MORE."

For me, the main benefits came when Sif shared the inside secrets of her incredible personal success story and from receiving invaluable individual feedback which she happily provided beyond workshop hours and even upon my return home! Importantly, she makes you feel comfortable instantly, no matter your photographic experience. Her down-to-earth approach helped participants to immediately gel well together which made the workshop fun.

Sif's style of communicating her visual storytelling knowledge is unique and made me feel truly connected and inspired. I returned home equipped with more tools and fully motivated to take action on my dreams.

I can’t speak highly enough of Sif's workshops.
